Hong Kong and Singapore Sevens tournaments cancelled due to Coronavirus fears.
World Rugby have announced this morning that both the Hong Kong and Singapore rounds of the HSBC Rugby Sevens tournament will be rescheduled due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the Asian/Pacific region.
The HSBC Singapore Sevens tournament has been moved from its original date of 11th & 12th April to the weekend of 10th -11th October. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong event has been rescheduled for the following weekend 16th-18th October.
It was at the Hong Kong tournament last April that Ireland secured their top tier status for this season. A 28 – 7 win over the hosts gave Anthony Eddy’s side a ticket to the top table for this season.
The next Sevens event is the Los Angles 7’s tournament which kicks-off on Saturday 29th February. Anthony Eddy’s men have been drawn in Pool B alongside South Africa, Canada and Kenya.
Ireland’s Pool B fixtures are all pencilled in for Saturday 29th, with the play-off’s and Final on Sunday 1st March.
Ireland v Canada – 11.13am local time/7.13pm Irish time.
Ireland v Kenya – 2.31pm local time/10.31pm Irish time.
Ireland v South Africa – 7.05pm local time/3.05am Irish time (Sunday morning).
Meanwhile, for the Irish Women’s sevens side the cancellation of the Hong Kong event will result in a break until the 2nd of May. The Canadian leg of the series takes place in Langford, Victoria on 2nd & 3rd of May.
