Glasgow coach Dave Rennie will take charge of Australia next summer, he had been favorite to get the All Blacks head coach job but he has taken the Australia job instead.
“We’ve loved our time here around great people. It’s been as good as I could have wished for after leaving New Zealand,” Rennie told the Glasgow Warriors website.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to coach at international level and an added bonus that we’ll be a little closer to home, near our kids and grandkids.
“All my focus is on the rest of the season in Glasgow as we strive to be in the mix come play-off time in both comps again.”
In Rennie’s first season, Glasgow reached the Pro14 semi-finals and made the final last term, as well as reaching the European Champions Cup quarter-finals.
New Zealand Rugby Chairman Brent Impey has congratulated Dave Rennie on his appointment as Head Coach of Australia.
Rennie joins a long line of New Zealand coaches who are plying their trade overseas, and have gone on to lead the coaching for some of the biggest national unions around the world.
Brent Impey said: “We have known for some time that Dave was in talks with Rugby Australia, so we have been clear about his position regarding the All Blacks Head Coach position. We congratulate Dave on his appointment and wish him the best. We certainly look forward to hosting him as the Head Coach of the visiting team during the Investec Rugby Championship.”
It now looks like the duo of Ian Foster, Scott Robertson are top of the list to get the head coaching job.
