Shock as Kieran Marmion and others dropped from Irish Rugby World Cup squad

There was shock with the breaking news from the Ireland rugby camp that Kieran Marmion has been dropped for the Ireland Rugby World Cup Squad.

Marmion who has looked like the number two behind Conor Murray for last 18 months and looked certain to make the plane to Japan but its seems that Luke McGrath has been chosen ahead of the Connacht player.

Marmion played really well on Saturday against Wales and was unlucky not to get the man of the match award, but it seems Joe Schmidt may have made up his mind on who would be Murrays back up before the match in Cardiff at the weekend.

It also appears that Devin Toner has been cut from his 31-man squad for the World Cup when he submits it today. The 67-times capped second-row looked like Ireland’s biggest asset in the line out but South African lock Jean Kleyn, who only qualified to play in the green jersey last month has edged him out.

Other players who look set to get dropped are Jordi Murphy, Jack McGrath, Will Addison, Ross Byrne and Dave Kearney.
